Assuming you have the necessary skills and permissions to re-word an existing page of content on your web site (if not see tip #1), and you have chosen some target keywords you can now start the most basic of all SEO activities. Content re-writing.
The art of good content writing for SEO is;
- Chose one main keyword theme per page (e.g. 'content re-writing' or 'white cotton gloves')
- Re-write the page using a reasonably high count of the core keywords or variations (e.g. web page re-writing, reword content, SEO copywriting, etc.) aim for around one keyword phrase or variation per sentence
- Don't worry too much about repetition, users are more tolerant of this than you think
- If you can, include the keyword in the page title, in bold text, in bullet points and in any headings you are allowed
- Add links, if you can, to pages that share this main theme (putting the keywords on the link itself)
- If possible, change the menu item that points to this page to include keywords
- Make sure that you are not repeating any potentially distracting non-target keywords more than twice. Otherwise you will have defeated the exercise
There are a few more tricks to "on-page SEO" but these will be covered in later tips in the Chilli Digital 101.
As long as search engines can see these pages ("crawl" them), and there are no other high-frequency words on the page that are not target keywords, you will have at least optimised the content on the page for your target keywords. The more specific these keywords are (e.g. 3 or 4 word keyword phrases), the more likely you are to improve your position in the rankings for them. If you have more target keywords than pages, write some new pages!!
